A letter to the NSF from a friend of John Bosco (JB), a former NSF patient.
Dear NuVasive Spine Foundation™,
John Bosco is a lucky man; lucky to have me in his life and lucky that I found you. Through you and NuVasive®, his life was saved. For an American, that would sound dramatic, maybe even too much so. For a poor African man we both know that it’s true.
Now that you know JB a bit, you realize how vital it was to save this man. JB has known throughout his life how to struggle to get what he needs and wants to have: an education, food for his family, books, connection to the world outside Uganda. But this time he was at a dead-end; he didn’t know how to begin to get the help he needed. He turned to me and through a series of fortunate connections, I somehow found you. And you saved him.
You saved him in so many ways. First, and most importantly, you helped to provide the life-saving surgery that he needed. Your organization took care of most of the expenses involved in that. You and the others on your team showed extraordinary care and sympathy for him in the most delicate of situations. You helped him to maintain his dignity and regain his confidence. You and your team cared for him as if he were the highest-paying client in the world’s most premier facility. For that I am extraordinarily grateful.
Enormous gratitude goes to you and to NuVasive for giving life back to JB. He, himself, had told me that he “felt his life slipping away from him.” I didn’t know what I could do or say until you came along.
Please know the importance of what you and NuVasive are achieving together.
Sincerely,
John Bosco’s Friend
