Our Story

Our Roots

The NuVasive Spine Foundation is rooted in NuVasive’s “Attitude of Grattitude.” First called the Cheetah Gives Back Foundation and started by a group of NuVasive employees looking for a way to band together and help their community.

Becoming NSF

In 2009, we received our nonprofit status and soon became the NuVasive Spine Foundation (NSF), a separate entity from NuVasive, committed to providing life-changing spine-surgery to those in need.

NSF recognized that it was uniquely positioned to share the innovative technology and expertise of NuVasive and that it could do so through medical missions to under-resourced communities around the world.

Today, NSF operates by developing strong partnerships that allow us to build sustainable spine treatment programs and advance the quality of spine care in disadvantaged countries.

Through our medical mission program, NSF partners with leading spine surgeons, NuVasive, Inc., nonprofits and in-country medical professionals/facilities to provide life-changing spine surgery to individuals with limited access to high quality medical treatment and uphold our responsibility to leverage NuVasive’s expertise in spine care to give back to local and global communities.

NuVasive generously donates hardware, technology and clinical services to support NSF medical missions.

NSF relies on the support of our donors to fund our efforts home and abroad.

Why We Do It

Meet Daniela
Honduras Medical Mission Patient

“I was living in horrible pain. I couldn’t walk, stand-up, go to the bathroom or take care of my son. When I stood up for the first time after surgery, I felt like the happiest woman in the world. I feel like I have my life back and can be the mother my son needs.” – Daniela

Daniela was seen in clinic by one of our surgeon volunteers and underwent a Hemilaminectomy during the July 2019 mission trip to the One World Surgery Center in Honduras. Click on the photo, to watch her story.
