February 2016 Kenya Mission Trip
The NuVasive Spine Foundation is supporting its 20th direct mission to Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya.
Day one of Giving Back included a meeting with Kenyatta Hospital CEO and local orthopedic surgeons, a 6 hour clinic hosted by our NSF volunteer and Kenyatta Hospital surgeons, and scheduling and preparing for surgeries for the remainder of the week. Thank you to all of our volunteers both on the trip and at home and the surgeons and staff at Kenyatta Hospital. This is true teamwork and partnership in action.
Below are some pictures from our first day in Kenya:
Day two of the mission started with our visit to the University of Nairobi school of Medicine where our volunteer surgeons met with and educated the medical residents and surgeons on spine surgery topics. The day also marked the first day of surgeries at Kenyatta Hospital where we are ‘changing lives, one surgery at a time’ in the newly updated operating rooms.
Below are some pictures from our second day in Kenya.
Day three of the NSF mission to Kenyatta Hospital in Nairobi was jam-packed with Giving Back. Our volunteer and local surgeons started at 7 am with a full day of scheduled surgeries, volunteers painted a room on the pediatric ward and visited with children staying on the ward, and Dr. Serena Hu gave a lecture on Scoliosis.
Below are some pictures from our third day in Kenya.
During the week at Kenyatta Hospital, NSF volunteers in collaboration with Kenyatta Hospital’s surgeons, orthopedic residents and operating room team, supported 14 patients with their spine surgery needs. We were also able to visit the Green Pastures School to support the work being done to help the children from Kibera get quality education. Thank you to all of our volunteers and supporters. We could not do it without you! We look forward to being back on the ground in June.
Below are some pictures from the final few days of the mission trip.
