Recently, The NuVasive Spine Foundation(NSF) was featured in the local Nigerian news for sponsoring a surgical mission trip to Kwara, Nigeria, from September 26 to September 30, 2013.

A total of 10 patients were treated at the Sobi Specialist and Kwata University Hospitals where they received life-changing spine surgery at no cost to the patients.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Health, Alhaji Abdul Kayode Issa, commended the NSF, stating that the program and healthcare the NSF provided was “very advantageous to our present teeming populations’ healthcare needs.”

The health commissioner also stated that nearly 80 percent of Nigeria’s population suffers from degenerative disc disease, scoliosis, or trauma resulting from car accidents.

Currently, the Nigerian government is attempting to improve their healthcare system by partnering with the NSF as an attempt to save patient lives at no cost to the local population.
