NuVasive®, Inc launched the Cheetah Family Relief Fund: In response to the devastation caused by the San Diego wildfires in October of 2007, NuVasive Shareowners created the Cheetah Family Relief Fund to support those NuVa Family members whose homes were damaged in the fires.

$38,253 was raised by the Cheetah Family Relief Fund and checks were presented to the Shareowners in need at the holiday luncheon. In addition to raising money for our own Cheetah family, NuVasive also raised an impressive $21,463 to donate to the Firestorm 2007 Fund which supported local San Diego firefighters, and their families, who had suffered losses while fighting the wildfires.

The Cheetah Family Relief Fund expanded to support the families of fallen Cheetahs. Scholarship funds were started for the son of NuVasive Shareowner Gina Casari after she passed away, as well as for XLIF® surgeon Dr. Eric Thomas’ children after his death

The Cheetah Family Relief Fund raised $11,690.00 for the 2008 Heart Walk, San Diego, in which over 40 Shareowners participated.

The NuVasive 1st Annual Charity Golf Tournament – $15,550 Raised for the Cheetah Relief Fund

The Cheetah Gives Back Foundation supported a group of Shareowners participating in the 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk, a 60 mile walk from Del Mar to Downtown San Diego over 3 days, by donating $2500.

The Cheetah Gives Back Foundation was created. As the Cheetah Family Relief Fund continued to grow and expand its reach, Nuvasive created the Cheetah Gives Back Foundation, a recognized not-for-profit, thereby giving Shareowners a tax deduction for their donations.

The Cheetah Gives Back Foundation supported the 2009 Heart Walk in San Diego. Together, the NuVa Family and CGB raised over $16,000 for the American Heart Association.

2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament – $55,000 Raised for the Cheetah Gives Back Foundation

Drs. Helen and Andrew Cappuccino, and NuVasive Shareowners Pat Miles and Pitchou Malaba travel to Kenya to volunteer for the Cheetah Gives Back Foundation’s first funded mission to Tenwek Hospital

Lance Armstrong Foundation LiveSTRONG Ride, Austin, TX. 19 NuVasive Family members participated in the 90-mile bike ride, supported by the Cheetah Gives Back Foundation’s gracious donations of $2,500 toward the cause and riding kits for the entire team.

The Cheetah Gives Back Foundation became officially dedicated solely to providing life changing spine surgery to those in need around the world

The NuVasive Cheetah Gives Back Foundation sponsored the 25th Annual Carlsbad 5000 Race. Over 140 NuVa Family members participated, and the Cheetah Gives Back Foundation raised over $32,000.

Mission trip to Kenyatta Hospital, Nairobi, Kenya. Attendees included NuVasive Chairman and CEO, Alex Lukianov, as well as Pitchou Malaba, John Atwater, MD, James Hale, MD, and Nadia Borowski Scott.

3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament raised over $188,000.

Mission trip to Kenyatta Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. The team included Drs. John Atwater, Andrew Capuccino, Gregory Mundis, as well as Carmilyn Lesemann, RN, G. Bryan Cornwall, PhD, and Pitchou Malaba. 15 surgeries were performed thanks to the $400,000 in product donation from NuVasive and the $60,134 sponsorship from the Cheetah Gives Back Foundation.

Mission to Spine Injury Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. Two surgeries were performed by Daveed Frazier, MD, and Curt VandenBerg, MD. The Cheetah Gives Back foundation sponsored the trip with a $1,000 donation. Additional costs were covered by Dr. Frazier.
